Stephen,

I stumbled across your blog from listening to the interview that you did with C.J. on your new book. As a father, coach and participant I found your talk right on target and the emotions that you experienced on the court. I also have experienced both the good and not so good emotions.

When I saw this book I didn't want to read it. Why? Because I could never say or use the title of the book to describe my relationship with my Dad.

I did downlaod it and I appreciate you making it available free. I want to read it, but it will be hard, I want to read it not for how it reminds me of my Dad, but how I'm impacting my kids and the relationship that I have with them.

This may not be a timely post compared to others but nothing just happens. Thanks!

Trillia - I hope your husband finds the book encouraging as he seeks to raise your son in the fear of the Lord!

Erich - I love seeing you hang with your boys. And they crack me up, big-time. I can't wait to see how God uses you and them for his glory.

Tia - Feel free to "borrow" all you want! And thanks for pointing out the typo...

Finished the book! Your dad's example of serving your mom & all those family memories were really fun(!) & encouraging to read :] I'm going to have to "borrow" some family memory ideas! Maybe not the cowboy one exactly but maybe a version of it -- haha.

(By the way, not a big deal but just thought you might want to know . . . on page 107, I think you wrote "Dom" instead of "Mom"!)

Steven,
Being able to hang out with you and David has allowed me to ask questions about your relationship with your Dad. Hearing the two of you talk about him, in such a way I've never heard teenage sons talk about their father before has been a huge encouragement. I've been able to use your father's example to create good times and memories with my children from talking with the both of you!! Thank-you!! The first time I met your father, I realized there was something authentic there that I'd never seen before.

What a wonderful way to honor your dad Stephen! I can imagine he's a bit embarassed by the whole thing (in a sincerely humble way)! I look forward to reading it but most of all my first thought was I'm going to forward it to my sweet husband. I am sure it will be a great encouragement, challenge and inspiration for him as he leads our family and mostly our son Weston!

THANKS!

YellerDaisies - Sounds like your mom and dad are like mom. God is so kind to give us parents who are heroes!

Briana - Maybe this will finally convince Lawrence that it's time to move out here!

Nathan - I think looking back on God's past grace is such a good reminder of his future grace. It's so encouraging to see God at work, because it gives me faith that he'll continue working.

Tim - This is an easy read! I hope it's helpful...

OK, so I have too many books that I have to read. Must read.

And I'm due to read one from somebody dead. I'm reading too much contemporary stuff.

And this AM I already alternately read from Tim Keller and the bio of William Carey.

And now this. In free e-book form.

But I really don't have time and I got other stuff to read.

Drat! I downloaded it and read the first paragraph. Hooked.

Stephen, I just downloaded the book and read the first chapter...WOW! Thank you so much for putting together this testimony of the grace of God at work in your dad!

I think what I like about it most so far is how in the first chapter you've said several times that the events weren't like fireworks...it was just normal life for your dad. It reminds me that sometimes the glory shining through the Present can't be seen until it's reflected on as the Past. It's so faith-building to be reminded that God can work powerfully through "normal" life.

I can't wait to read the rest!!
