Something Has To Drop

by Stephen Altrogge on September 12, 2008

I really appreciated this video interview with Tim Keller. It was intended for pastor’s but I think it has a much broader application. Could you relate to what he said about needing to let some balls drop? What would that look like in your life?

This is something I need to be pondering as I’m at the Pastor’s College. The temptation is to give myself to important things, like studying, and to neglect the most important things: the Lord, my wife, and my daughter. Sometimes the academics will have to go.

Two things:

1. This shows why we need to live in light of our death. We need to accurately think about our death, because it is going to happen, and live accordingly.

2. Were Tim Keller and C.J. Mahaney separated at birth? I forget if I asked this before, but I think yes.

OK, three things. 3. One of the things I love about Chris Silard, my pastor at Frederick, is his concern for his family. When I asked him how I could pray for him when I first met him, he firstly asked for pray to be a good leader of his family, which I respect.

Hey There Stephen!

I loved what Tim Keller said about the fact that People are going to be mad at you no matter what, especially if we’re doing the right things. Our families sometimes suffer in the name of “ministry” this is something that I have had issues with in the past, sacrificing time with my wife for an extra practice or a late night of fellowshipping with the guys after practice.
It’s such a hard balancing act, you feel called to serve in ministry while trying not to allow the ministry in your home to suffer.
I’m truly thankful for God’s grace and mercy and I’m thankful that he blessed me with a wife who exercises grace towards her sinful husband.

Blessings
