Helpful Perspectives on the Election

by Stephen Altrogge on November 5, 2008

Al Mohler has provided some helpful perspective in light of Barack Obama being elected as President. He says:

Every American should be moved by the sight of young African-Americans who — for the first time — now believe that they have a purchase in American democracy.  Old men and old women, grandsons and granddaughters of slaves and slaveholders, will look to an African-American as President.

Mohler also says:

We must pray that God would change President-Elect Obama’s mind and heart on issues of our crucial concern.  May God change his heart and open his eyes to see abortion as the murder of the innocent unborn, to see marriage as an institution to be defended, and to see a host of issues in a new light.  We must pray this from this day until the day he leaves office.  God is sovereign, after all.

Josh Harris also has some helpful words, saying:

Those who call Jesus their Lord can be filled with a quiet peace and confidence in all seasons. Our Savior is never in the White House. Our Savior is Jesus. We must turn to him with joy and faith. And as we do let’s pray for our new President Elect that God would give him wisdom and grace to lead our nation in the days to come.

Let’s be resolved to pray for Barack Obama – for his salvation, for his family, and for the end of abortion. Above all, let’s place our confidence in the King above all Presidents.

I like what Josh Harris wrote:

“Our Savior is never in the White House. Our Savior is Jesus. We must turn to him with joy and faith.”

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses…” (and some in presidents, and some in constitutions) “…But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” – Psalm 20:7

Hey guys

On sunday Craig preached a great sermon in his series on the Atonement. He tied it to the election and I think it became the best election related sermon I have ever heard

its the Atonement 7 sermon from 11/2/08

Thank you Stephen! What a comfort to know that God chooses leaders, not people. We can rest in His sovereign plan. And it is good for us to remember to pray for our leaders and for our country.

I also like what Josh Harris said. We Christian conservatives need to spend more time praying for Obama instead of beating him up.

God is bigger than the White House and Supreme Court!

Thank you Stephen very encouraging words for sure. Jesus never sought any office of man, nor did concern himself with the affairs of state.

I have never read in the scriptures any statements like “we must go to Rome and protest a bill the the Senate is debating” or “we must go to Jerusalem to speak with the mayor”.

The apostles were concerned about the “affairs of the heart” namely the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation of men’s souls.

Thank you Jesus!
