Book Review: You Are the Treasure That I Seek

Why I Recommend:

Greg’s book provides an excellent introduction to the biblical subject of idolatry. He shows that idolatry isn’t only bowing before golden idols, but also includes many other things we “worship”, like entertainment, sex, food, recreation, etc. If you ever find yourself obsessed with something – a person, car, new television, relationship – you’re probably committing the sin of idolatry. You’re worshiping a false god that will never satisfy you. In his book, Greg helps us identify the idols that rule us, and then directs to Christ as the fountain of all true satisfaction.

A great strength of this book is that it’s gospel saturated. It would be so easy to address this subject from a “do”/”don’t” perspective. Thankfully, Greg steers clear of moralism and roots all he says in the gospel.

Greg’s book is an easy read and is packed with illustrations. I would recommend it for all Christians, but especially those who are unfamiliar with the subject of idolatry.
