“Walk Humbly” Is Here!

“Walk Humbly” (Hide the Word 9), the ninth in a series of albums designed to help people memorize Scripture, is now available.

Walk Humbly consists of 20 scriptures (including references) set word-for-word to contemporary music, and I don’t mean muzak.

Memorizing Scripture has been one of the biggest blessings in my life.  Often when I’ve faced temptations or trials, God has brought Scriptures to my mind that I’ve memorized.  Sometimes I’ve recalled verses that have enabled me to encourage or strengthen others.

I’m able to memorize verses much easier when they’re set to music.  You can memorize Scripture while doing other things, like driving, canning pickles or roasting coffee.

A number of the verses on “Walk Humbly” have to do with humility.  Other Hide the Word albums focus several verses on themes like trusting God in trials (“Through the Waters” – Hide the Word 8).  Every HTW album includes several gospel-specific verses as well.

Today we’re giving away a free Scripture song from “Walk Humbly,” 1 John 1:7.  Listen to it by clicking the player below [RSS readers may need to click through to the post].

Hi Chris,

Walk Humbly (HTW9) is all ESV. So are HTW4, 5, 6, 7, 8. HTW 1-3 were various versions.

I found your website and this free song after a reference at http://www.challies.com, and I am wondering if all your songs have the distinctive beat that this free song has. A beat of about 90 bpm is perfect music to use when riding a bicycle indoor trainer. If all your songs are like this one, I might get more. Thanks.

Hey Mark,

You can listen to samples on my website, forevergratefulmusic.com, of most of the songs on the Hide the Word albums. I try to vary the speeds, rhythms, styles, etc somewhat for variety and interest, but there would be a number of songs on various albums around that speed I think. Thanks for asking.

Pure scripture set to music *AND* ESV! WOO HOO! I appreciate that the verse is repeated several times on the track, and that the reference is part of the song. My little girls love this already. (Found out about the new release on Challies.com.)

One more thing…I started to purchase through Forever Grateful, and realized it was a hard copy CD (I think?). Is it a digital download or a CD shipped to me? I tried to purchase through iTunes … not there :( I would rather purchase directly through you anyway…digitally???

Hi Stephanie,

I am not set up to sell the songs digitally, but I think I’ll need to do that sometime in the near future. At this point if you buy it at the website, I will ship you a hard copy. Sorry it’s not available digitally. I know that’s the way music is headed, so guess I’ll have to get on board…..

Thanks for the quick reply! Headed off on a trip tomorrow and would’ve loved to have this on the plane on my iPod — instant gratification, and all! :( - Hmmmmm, fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, PATIENCE….. :)

Thanks again, and God bless you!

I don’t have PayPal. Is there another way to order a CD?

Hi Becky,

Let me know which one you want, I’ll send it, and you can send me a check, if that works. Thanks!

Thanks, Mark. That will work fine. I am not sure where to start, so I guess I will start with Walk Humbly. I couldn’t see a place to e-mail you my address, but you have my e-mail, and if you e-mail back, I’ll send it. Thanks again.

LOVE this CD. The Lord continues to use your CDs in my life in a powerful way. The Spirit also brings these Scriptures to mind just in the moment I need them.

I reckon Scripture memory to giving the Spirit a full piano to play music on. If you only give him three keys he can play a tune with it, though it’d be something you’d hear in kindergarten. Some people only know Psalm 23 and God uses that. But give him more keys and you’ll hear him play a masterpiece; you’ll have a scripture for when you sin, for evangelism, for encouraging others on a plane, on the phone, in the hospital… the Master Mozart at work.

Wonderful tool! May the popularity of HTW continue to spread.

Hey Chris,

Thank you so much for your very kind and encouraging words. I’m grateful the Lord would use my feeble efforts to encourage you.

By the way: On this CD, Psalm 92:1-2, 1 Peter 5:5 and Lamentations 3:31-33 are really catchy :-) Revelation 4:11 is very pretty. Sweet sound.

I was so sure that Psalm 119:9-11 featured Matt Redmond that I had to check the liner notes… that guy sure sounds like Matt!

Walk humbly… wonderful stuff.

Matt /Redman/. Hehe.

Add Micah 7:19 into the “catchy” category. Who knew memorizing God’s Word could be so fun?

Chris de Vidal December 7, 2009 at 6:15 pm

Add 1 John 1:17 to “catchy” as well. So many good choices. “Feeble effort” indeed. Can’t believe you did this in your spare time.

Hey everyone, did you know that Mark Altrogge’s God is a very giving, generous God? Check it:

Thanks Chris!

Yeah, I really like Caleb’s voice. I hope I can have him do more for me in the future.
