by Stephen Altrogge on December 22, 2009

Here’s a behind the scenes look at how my dad writes a new song.

I did it with my flip cam so it’s a little shaky…

Love it! That was excellent and this little bit of behind the scenes will be an encouragement to our little songwriter.

Hi Elaine,

I didn’t know you had a little songwriter. I knew you had a musician. Is she the songwriter?

Elaine December 23, 2009 at 9:36 pm

Yes, she is our musician and is just beginning to write songs as well.

Didn’t Mark also write Don’t Fear the Reaper?

Another song without cowbell?!!!?

Gene,

There will definitely be a cowbell in the final arrangement. It’s just difficult for me to play while I’m playing guitar.

I’m going to try to get going with some video shortly too. It just totally ups the connectedness.

REALLY great! I heard you guys in the office and wondered how it was going to end. Your messages in song are really inspiring and I look forward to when we all get to sing this song.

I echo the comment above by bondChristian: Keep up the videos. It really does give us a small, ‘sneak peak’ into you guys beyond the insightful blog posts.

I couldn’t help but wonder: the Bible next to the moleskin journal…ESV? Sure did look like it.

Nice!

I’m glad to see that you still have the HD-28. It sounds great.

Hi Jack,

Yep, still have the HD-28. Its neck is a little thicker than most guitars nowdays, thus a little tougher to play, but I still like it.

I like the thicker neck … I have an 00-18V with modified V neck. Played it this morning at church … we did “I Stand in Awe.”

I’m not sure I know what the 00-18V with modified V neck looks like…wow, I’m honored you would sing “I Stand in Awe.”

I always thought the Souza marched had a sort of "sovereign grace music" feel to them. Now I know why.

Seriously, though, i really liked this song, and there is such a need for good songs about the church coming together to worship God. I can think of one or two good ones, and a few dozen campy dated ones. This I like. I hope you record it. I especially hope you share some chord charts as well. :)

Thanks Lee! I hope it gets recorded too, but if it doesn't I'd be glad to send you the chords/lyrics. At this point, I would not want to send anything out because it could yet have some tweaks made to it…thanks for your encouragement.
