Almighty For You

“It is the saints’ duty, and should be their care, not only to believe that God is Almighty, but also to strongly believe that his almighty power is engaged for our defense and help in all of our straits and temptations.” — William Gurnall

Ask any Christian if they believe God is almighty and they will say yes. The issue is, do we believe that God is almighty for US? Do you believe he will use his mighty power to defend, help, and provide for YOU? As a father, I would do anything within my power to help my children. Will not our heavenly Father do far more for his beloved children than any human father?

Wow..this can be a tough one at times (most times). I think what can make it so hard for us is that His ways are not like our ways. So when we want help/defense/provision we think of it in human terms and in a "what suits me best *right now*?" way. God sees the beginning and the end of things, so His provision is always correct…but not always necessarily the thing we want to see at that given moment.

I would say the tougher thing is to trust/believe that His help/defense/provision is the correct one!

Hi Ben,

So true – believing his ways in our lives are the "correct" ones. Yet the Lord's ways in our lives are absolutely perfectly loving, wise, good, powerful and the best things for us.

Hey there Mark,
Great encouragement today, like it would be any other way!! I agree, so many times we think that the promises that God has given us through His perfect word are for others, they could never be for us personally. I think it's because we know how incredibly sinful that we are and we would never be deserving of anything that He would give us. I guess that's why it's such good news and it totally blows me away that God would give me anything but death, He's an amazing God! Thanks for this today…I needed it!
Blessings

Hi Ron,

You're right – when we look at ourselves and our own unworthiness, we have a hard time believing God's power and promises could be for us. Our God is so amazing that he sees us righteous in Christ, and loves us intensely as his adopted children. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
