βLet no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.β (Ephesians 4:29)
Today, our words have the potential to do one of two incredible things.
Our words can corrupt others. Like an infectious disease, our grumbling, or slandering, or gossiping, or cursing, have the real potential to corrupt others within the body of Christ. My words can lead others to think less of God and less of others.
Or, our words can be a channel through which people experience the grace of God. If we speak words of encouragement and exhortation that build others up, people really will experience the grace of God. They will encounter God through our words.
Today I want my words to be a channel of grace, don’t you?
Questions:
- What does corrupting talk look like? When you hear corrupting talk, how does it affect you?
- When have you found yourself most encouraged by the words of someone else?

Many times, the Lord has kindly reminded me to rein in my mouth with the scripture that says "When words are many, sin is not absent."
Lately, I've been so encouraged by a close friend who has gotten hold of the beauty of God's grace. He can hardly open his mouth without the Gospel issuing forth in a way that is wondrous to behold.
Geez, did I just say "wondrous?" Sorry.
By the way Stephen, thank you for the encouragement you and your dad provide with The Blazing Center. My blog wants to be like yours when it grows up.
Thanks so much for your encouragement and regular comments! They really do provide motivation to keep blogging!
Thanks for this timely reminder.
You're welcome!
Hey Stephen,
Listen to this message by a fellow pastor in training, Alex Kirk, at Sovereign Grace's northern Mass church, King of Grace. Alex does a great job of revealing the power of a christians words. http://www.kingofgrace.org/SundaymessageFILE/King...
