How do we become more like Christ? By beholding him.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 CO 3.18).

“In what way do we behold his glory?…it’s the gospel that reveals Christ’s glory. Therefore, to behold his glory we must gaze into the gospel by faith. As we do this, the Spirit will transform us more and more into his likeness.” — Jerry Bridges, Bob Bevington, Bookends for the Christian Life

We become like the One we behold in the Word.

Thanks for sharing this today Mark, goes nicely with the book I'm reading right now by Tim Chester "You Can Change" great book on sanctification.
I truly need to view the gospel daily, I'm prone to forget the good news. I desperately need to be reminded that I am indeed a great sinner but I have an even greater Savior!

Thank you for the words of encouragement. To always remember that if I want to be more like Jesus I have to die to self and completely depend on the Spirit for the transformation :)

Hi Caroline,

You are so right – though we exert effort, we must completely depend on the Spirit can transform us. Thanks for adding your comment!
