I always enjoy hearing Louis Armstrong sing “What A Wonderful World”
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful worldI see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful worldThe colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin’ hands, sayin’ “How do you do?”
They’re really saying “I love you”I hear babies cryin’, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful worldOh yeah!
And I think to myself, what a wonderful God…what a wonderful God.
“Creation was…a love song from the Creator to mankind. In a thousand fields of study, God had coded the music of His creation. One hears the music of God testifying to the beauty of God not only through musical notes, but through genes, and chemicals, and all the mysterious workings of nature.”–Strachan and Sweeney, Jonathan Edwards on Beauty
I want to praise God more and more. When I hear cardinals and crickets and croaking frogs. When I see fireflies’ phosphorescent trails. When I see the sunset back lighting purple clouds.
How does God’s creation move you to praise him?

Nothing takes away my breath and fills me with awe like the night sky on a clear, crisp evening. One of my favorite parts of the day is to take our dog out right before I go to bed. It's a last minute reminder that no matter what happened during the day, the awesome Creator who created the stars and planets (and keeps them in orbit) is the Creator and Redeemer who is in control of my life. As I look up, I am put in my place as the creature and stand in awe of how big and powerful my God is. It's a reminder to trust and a reminder of just how great my God is!
Thanks yeller – the heavens declare the glory of God. That sounds like a great way to end the day.
Creation is so intricate, so detailed, so orderly…only an amazing God could create and hold together such a creation. But overall, seeing new life strikes a deep chord. Working as an obstetric nurse, every day was a reminder of the Lord's goodness. Just seeing those sweet newborns provoked so many of us to praise and thank the Lord for what He had created and then to pray for each one. Now watching my own children grow into godly young adults strikes that same sense of awe and wonder. He is so worthy of praise.
I can only imagine how incredible that would be to work as an obstetric nurse. How can any doctor or obstetric nurse possibly not believe in God? For that matter, how can any one who has had a child not believe in God? What miracles birth and life are! Great comments, Elaine!
So, so many things…. hard to choose. Lately, though, I’ve been really grateful to God for, of all things, SWEAT. (Sorry, since I’m a girl, should I say “glistening”?) Seriously, these hot and humid days… working outside… then a delicious little breeze blows and suddenly it’s more comfortable because God intentionally built into our bodies this cooling system of evaporation. He is so marvelous and so kind and thinks of even stuff like that to bless us and bring himself glory.
(And btw, you punctuated “fireflies’” perfectly.)
I like hearing Satchmo sing that song too, Mark, especially the “Oh, yeah” at the end.
