Calling All Readers! Help Me With My New Book…

by Stephen Altrogge on September 4, 2012

UPDATE: All the participants have been selected. Thanks so much!

I’m really excited to announce that I’ll be releasing my first novel next week, entitled The Last Superhero. Technically this story would probably fit into the Young Adult Fiction category, but I’m really hoping that adults will enjoy it as well. Here’s how I would describe it.

It’s the story of a superhero family, the Wagners, who have always protected the city of Coreopolis. The grandpa, John Utticus Wagner, is revered in the superhero community. He’s consistently invited to speak at superhero symposiums, has dined with the President, and has a sterling reputation as a model superhero. Unfortunately, John’s son, Orville Wagner, is not the man his father is. He’s a terrible klutz who always manages to create disasters, like derailing subway trains and accidentally injuring innocent bystanders. Orville is mocked in the superhero community, and the family’s once sterling reputation is tarnished. They no longer are seen as the protectors of Coreopolis.

When a new super villian starts terrorizing Coreopolis, it’s up to John, Orville, and Orville’s son, John II, to stop the villain and restore the family’s honor. The question is, can an old man, a klutz, and boy stop a maniacal super villain?

Here’s where I need your help. I’m looking for ten adult readers and ten young adult readers (18 or under) who would be willing to read my book this week (don’t worry, it’s short), and post a review on Amazon when I release it next week.

Just a note to parents, because this is a superhero story, it does contain some violence (nothing graphic), and I do use the word “crap” once or twice.

So here’s how this is going to work. Simply leave a comment saying whether you are an adult or young adult. I’ll select the first twenty who sign up. If you have a Kindle I’ll email you a Kindle version of the book. Otherwise I’ll email you a PDF. Sound good?

Thanks for your help!

I'm happy to be one of the "adult" voices. :-)

Would love to read a Kindle copy. I'm 45, but whether I'm an adult or not is up for discussion at our house.

Jay September 4, 2012 at 10:10 am

I’d love to help you out and would be in the adult category.

Katrina September 4, 2012 at 10:17 am

I would like to read it, too. I'm in the "young adult" category

Thomas September 4, 2012 at 10:18 am

I’d be happy to be one of the “young adult” readers.

My drivers license says I'm adult at 31. But I think that's up for debate. I'd be happy to read and review it for you. So long as "short" does mean less than 200 pages.

Anne September 4, 2012 at 10:20 am

I'm an adult librarian & I have a 12 YO girl who'd read it too. PS, we're in the UK.

I'm an adult with a Kindle, and I'm not afraid to use it! :) I would be happy to help, Stephen.

If you're still collecting readers, I would be happy to take an adult slot, and my 15-year-old son will take a youth slot.

paschott September 4, 2012 at 10:28 am

Happy to read in the "Adult" category. Can use the Kindle or PDF format. :)

I would be pleased to read something short for a change. I would assume it would be shorter than J.R.R. Tolkiens' reads. I am 31. but I hang out with teens 24/7. (Youth Pastor)

Lee Gunter September 4, 2012 at 10:54 am

Let me read that thing and review it for you. I’m an adult. I have done both beta reads and reads for review for writers before, and I read across the board with respect to genres. Would love to be involved.

Lee Gunter September 4, 2012 at 10:55 am

Oops. Yes, I have and prefer the Kindle version.

@stacysublett September 4, 2012 at 11:17 am

I'm pretty sure that I can give you 4 reviews if you're still looking for readers. I have 3 kids who are readers (16, 14, 11) plus myself (44). We can read on the Kindle format.
